Hey, I'm Falk

I'm a fullstack TypeScript tech lead based in Munich. I build software and the supporting infrastructure for some of the big players in the mobility industry. Of course I work AI-assisted these days, but with 12+ years of experience I come from a less comfortable time, and I offer my expertise of industry best practice software development and structural thinking. I keep things user centric, because the solutions I build are for humans after all.

I'm a try and error personality, ready to accept failure, adapt and go again.

What I do

I work as a TypeScript Tech Lead at an international full-service agency, in their Mobility and Professional Services department. My day to day is a mix of hands on coding, architecture decisions, code reviews, mentoring, and helping the company grow by interviewing new applicants and sharing my knowledge across colleagues. I've worked on great projects with some of the biggest names in automotive and mobility, both German and international manufacturers, and beyond that with banks, newspaper publishers, and real estate companies too.

Some highlights from recent years:

  • Built an accessible, WCAG compliant financial product landing page in React, TypeScript, and Azure Container Apps
  • Led the technical pitch and frontend architecture for a vehicle configurator, using module federation and domain driven development
  • Developed a vehicle inventory management interface that processed identifiers extracted from photos and displayed their status in a Vue.js web view
  • Built a custom Figma plugin suite that automates design generation, enriches designs with bespoke metadata persisted in an OAuth-secured remote database, and brings release workflows to Figma through a tailored version control system

Before that, I led engineering on a complete logistics planning web app in TypeScript and React with Redux and test driven development. On the side, I've been freelancing since 2016, mostly building CMS websites with Next.js, Strapi, and Netlify CMS.

Tech I work with

On the frontend I mainly use React, Vue, and TypeScript. On the backend it's Node.js, Next.js, and NestJS. I'm comfortable with cloud platforms like GCP, AWS, and Azure, and I use Pulumi and Terraform for infrastructure. For databases I typically reach for PostgreSQL or Firebase. I work with GraphQL, REST, and gRPC depending on the project.

Education

I studied Media Management at Mediadesign Highschool Munich (B.A., 2009 to 2013), followed by Media Informatics at LMU Munich (2014 to 2017). I've been actively working and growing as a developer since 2014.

Outside of work

When I'm not coding, you'll probably find me bouldering. I started 15+ years ago and it resembles my try and error mentality perfectly: fall off, figure out what didn't work, go again. I'm happily engaged and have a fantastic base of friends and family here in Munich, where I grew up and still live. I also love cooking and I'm currently learning Spanish.
